This reunion is nothing short of stage beauty.
Claire Danes and ex-boyfriend Billy Crudup had a friendly run-in at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts Gala April 7, nearly 20 years after they ended their controversial relationship.
While the pair arrived at the event separately, videos from the event posted online shows the former couple sharing a hug and chatted together inside.
The Homeland alum, 45, and Crudup, 56, in 2003, with him leaving his then-girlfriend of seven years Mary Louise Parker, then seven months pregnant with their baby, to be with Danes. (Crudup and Parker’s son William Atticus Parker, now 21, was born in January 2004.)
At the time, the Almost Famous alum alluded the controversy over his breakup with Parker and relationship with Danes while expressing reticence of discussing his personal life.
“First and foremost it is personal, painful and involves an infant,” he told The New York Times in an email published as part of an October 2004 profile on him, “and does not deserve to be exploited to sate the appetites of circulation counters and bored readers.”
“I have never indulged our society’s misguided notion that my personal life is relevant to my work,” he continued, “so any reporting surrounding that is necessarily hearsay, speculation or fantasy. Each published report is based only on the trade of suffering.”
Ultimately, Crudup and Danes broke up in 2006, with her going on to marry Hugh Dancy, with whom she shares kids Cyrus, 12, Rowan, 6, and a daughter born in 2023. For his part, the Morning Show star wed Naomi Watts in 2023.
It wasn’t until nearly a decade after the breakup that Danes shared her perspective on their relationship and detailed the backlash she faced, calling it “a scary thing.”
“That was really hard. I didn’t know how to not do that,” the My So-Called Life alum on The Howard Stern Show in 2015. “I was just in love with him, and needed to explore that, and I was 24.”
The Emmy winner added, “I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be.”
But when it came to where they stood, Danes added that she and Crudup were “friendly, we’re friends.”
