A new comedy feature is set to explore the foibles of the wellness space.
Catherine Cohen and Heléne Yorke will star in director Jeremy Redleaf’s indie film Transcendent, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. Principal photography recently wrapped on the comedy project.
Leading the supporting cast are Rebecca Henderson (The Acolyte) and Ben Sinclair (High Maintenance). Additionally, the cast includes Alex Moffat (SNL), Chris Gethard (The Chris Gethard Show), Alysia Reiner (Orange Is the New Black), Dave Alan Basche (United 93), Gus Birney (Black Rabbit), Maddie Corman (Accidentally Brave), Jordan Carlos (First Wives Club), Glo Talvarez (The Chair Company), Mark Gessner (NCIS: Hawaii) and Catherine Curtin (Stranger Things).
Transcendent centers on Cohen and Yorke as a pair of wellness experts who actually need to get well. Following a bad experience at an ayahuasca ceremony, they find a different treatment option in upstate New York, where they encounter a string of colorful characters, including their exes (Henderson and Sinclair).
Redleaf, the filmmaker behind 3rd Street Blackout and the Streamy Award-winning Odd Jobs, directed Transcendent from his own script. He and Matthew Ballen are credited for the story. Redleaf and Joshua Elias Palmer serve as producers, while Cohen, Ballen, Branton Choi, Colton Brown and Ryan Cunningham executive produce.
“Transcendent is about seeking inner peace while everything falls apart,” Redleaf says. “Nobody has it all figured out. The only way through this painful and beautiful experience of being alive right now is with each other.”
Cohen is a comedian, actress and musician known for her Netflix special, The Twist …? She’s Gorgeous, based on the show that won her best newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival. Her acting credits include such series as Netflix’s Sirens and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, along with the recent features Sentimental Value and The Running Man. Cohen is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Patty Felker at Felk Toczek.
Yorke starred on the HBO Max series The Other Two and has also appeared on such series as Showtime’s Masters of Sex, Epix’s Graves and CW’s Katy Keene. Her forthcoming feature work includes Carousel, alongside Jenny Slate and Chris Pine, and the biopic Hershey. Yorke is repped by UTA, Regarding Entertainment and Jackoway Austen.
