So if you care to find Cynthia Erivo, look to the 2025 Met Gala.
The Wicked star arrived at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5 in an outfit that may leave you feeling changed for good. For the event, Cynthia wore a custom Givenchy look consisting of a red and silver diamond flower-encrusted top, with black shorts and a black tulle train. (See more stars’ red carpet looks here.)
“I feel really majestic in this,” she told E!’s Zuri Hall at the 2025 Met Gala. “I’m really proud of this tonight. It’s special.”
And as always, she brought the magic with her nails—explaining that her manicurist Claws by Dior kicked off the artistry one day ahead of the gala.
“She started pulling from the accessories that you would have in a suit,” Cynthia explained. “So we have your pocket square, you have your tie, you have your button, and you have the lace, which is from the Rococo era. You have your pin stripes, and she just sort of put it all together.”
For this year’s event, the dress code is “Tailored for You.” As the museum noted, it aligns with the suiting and menswear shown in The Costume Institute’s exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism.”
Cynthia has often mixed suit and menswear pieces into her ensembles. Take, for instance, her Thom Browne look for the 2024 Met Gala, where she wore a white button-up and black tie underneath a cropped, black suit jacket and skirt that were covered in sequins and 2,000 pink silk moire petals.
And while the Met Gala—which she’s attended since 2016—is only one short day, the actress brings her spellbinding fashion to every occasion (as seen through her looks for the Wicked press tour and award shows). In fact, Cynthia has expressed how she considers everything from her earrings to the construction of her garment when choosing a look.
“My nails are always a part of the story, and I always want to use these as sort of an accent to what’s going on,” she added to E! News in 2024. “And for me, it’s all about structure and shape. So, I play with that. So that if we do wear a muted color, the shape of it is what actually changes the point of view.”
