Dexter: Resurrection is being brought back to life for another season.
Paramount+ has formally renewed the Dexter sequel series for season two — confirming previous statements previously made by returning showrunner Clyde Phillips.
Star Michael C. Hall made a (somewhat creepy) announcement video for fans (watch it below) about the news. “First of all, I just want to thank all the fans for tuning in and taking the Dexter: Resurrection ride with us,” he said. “We’ve been greenlit for another season. The writers room is assembling now, and details will be forthcoming. But I wanted to be the first to let you know that the story continues.”
The debut season was a continuation of the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, which followed reunion of Dexter Morgan (Hall) and his son Harrison (Jack Alcott).
The move follows Paramount+ handling its other Dexter spinoff series, the prequel drama Dexter: Original Sin, in a rather unusual way. The streamer announced Original Sin had been renewed for season two back in April. After the Paramount-Skydance merger was completed in August, the Dexter franchise shifted from Showtime/MTV Entertainment into Paramount Television Studios. Shortly thereafter, the streamer announced that Original Sin would not continue after all.
Phillips candidly criticized the move last month. “It was a tough phone call that I got,” Phillips said on the Dissecting Dexter podcast. “They had already picked up the show, and I had informed all the writers and all the actors. Then they un-picked it up. … It wasn’t handled well, and I’m not happy about it.” Phillips noted the writers had plotted out “a couple years” of the show.
