Elisabeth Moss is headed back to Hulu for her next on-screen role.
The Emmy-winning Handmaid’s Tale star is set to lead a legal drama titled Conviction at the Disney-owned streamer. She’ll also be an executive producer on the show along with showrunner David Shore (House, The Good Doctor) and Handmaid’s Tale EP Warren Littlefield. The series comes from 20th Television, where both Shore and Littlefield have overall deals.
Conviction is based on a 2023 novel by Jack Jordan. Moss will play Neve Harper, a defense attorney who “finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder where the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire,” the show’s logline reads. “But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal — or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”
Along with the series order for Conviction, 20th TV has a development deal with Jordan that covers his upcoming novels and original scripts. His 2024 book Redemption is in development Disney Entertainment’s International Originals EMEA team, from 20th TV, The Littlefield Co., Co-Lab 21 (which is also involved in Conviction) and Riff Raff Entertainment. His next novel, Deception, is also in development at 20th.
Conviction will mark Moss’ on-screen return at Hulu, though she’s also an executive producer of The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale that’s set to premiere in April. She’ll next be seen in Apple TV’s Imperfect Women, which is set to premiere March 18.
Shore is adapting Jordan’s novel and will serve as showrunner on Conviction. He executive produces through his Shore Z Productions along Jordan; Moss and Lindsey McManus via their Love & Squalor Pictures; Littlefield, Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison ofThe Littlefield Co.; Bert Salke of Co-Lab21; and Erin Gunn of Shore Z.
Moss is repped by WME, Ocean Avenue, Ribisi Entertainment Group and Hansen Jacobson. Shore is with CAA, The Shuman Co. and attorney Bill Sobel. Jordan is repped by Madeleine Milburn Agency, WME and Frankfurt Kurnit.
