Emma Thompson loves making some red carpets a family affair, actually.
After all, the Oscar winner attended the U.K. Gala screening of her upcoming film The Dead of Winter in London with her and husband Greg Wise‘s daughter Gaia Wise.
For the Sept. 8 outing, Emma arrived in a three-piece oversized white suit, adorned with embroidered plants. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old—who stars as a younger version of her mom in the thriller—complemented the all-white ensemble with her strapless black gown.
Supporting Gaia and the Love Actually actress’ latest project was a top priority in the Wise-Thompson household, with Greg, their son Tindyebwa Agaba Wise, 37, and Emma’s mother Phyllida Law all in attendance.
Given that the 66-year-old spent much of her life in the public eye, it’s no surprise that Gaia gravitated towards the same career.
“I would be lying if I said that I’d ever wanted to do anything else,” the A Walk in the Woods actress admitted to Numéro in December. “I was exposed as a child to acting and film sets, and loved watching the process unfold.”
The Dead of Winter wasn’t the only movie on which she and Emma collaborated on a project. In fact, Gaia reflected on being in awe while working with her mother on The Fisherwoman.
“It was an unforgettable experience,” she gushed. “To be able to support one another during such an intense work period was wonderful and I will never get tired of watching my mother. She is a huge inspiration to me.”
Although Emma—who adopted Tindy in 2003 after years of IVF treatments—has continued to be dedicated to her career, motherhood was her true calling.
“Family is the centre of everything for me,” she told The Guardian in 2010. “But family is about connection, not necessarily about blood ties. It’s about extended family—and extending family.”
So, it was no question when she decided to take a year away from the spotlight.
“I wanted to spend more time with my family,” Emma explained to The Daily Mail in 2014. “A year off was my birthday present to myself. I didn’t actually act or write. I was just a mum. I taught drama at my daughter’s school, cooked meals and had fun.”
It was the perfect time for her since she emphasized, “Sometimes in life you’ll have some things, at other times you will have other things.”
