George Clooney and Annette Bening will star in In Love, an adaptation of Amy Bloom’s New York Times best-selling memoir In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss that is to be directed by Paul Weitz.
Anton, the rising outfit run by Sébastien Raybaud that helped produced Memoir of a Snail and the upcoming Victorian Psycho, is fully financing and is representing international rights. U.S. rights are co-represented by Anton and CAA Media Finance.
With In Love, Bloom wrote about how her she slowly lost her husband to Alzheimer’s, how the two made the decision to travel to Switzerland to end his life, and the struggle to move forward as a widow. The book was an affirmation of love and the power of relationships. It was also named TIME Magazine’s No. 1 best nonfiction book and included on their list of 100 must-read books.
Oscar-nominated Weitz, whose recent films include 2021’s Fatherhood and 2022’s Moving On, co-wrote the script with Bloom.
Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev, who produced the upcoming Brendan Fraser drama Rental Family, developed the project and will produce via their banner Sight Unseen.
Also producing are Andrew Miano and Weitz via their shingle Depth of Field, while Clooney will also produce with his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov. Raybaud is producing for Anton.
Clooney is hoping to be a player this award season with Jay Kelly, Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama that premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and debuts on Netflix Dec. 5.
Bening will next be seen opposite Jessie Buckley in Bride, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s unique take on the Bride of Frankenstein story. Warner Bros. releases the movie March 6, 2026.
