Gwyneth Paltrow will always be her kids’ No. 1 fan.
That’s why the Oscar winner, her ex-husband Chris Martin and their son Moses Martin, 18, all put on their best Valentino and showed up to support Apple Martin, 20, when she made her debut at the Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris in November.
Still, there was a little trepidation about her daughter’s decision to enter high society in front of everyone at the Shangri-La hotel.
“We’re going to embrace this and support you,” the 52-year-old told Vanity Fair in a interview published March 18 of her reaction to Apple’s request, adding that she was curious the role her Coldplay frontman father would play asking her daughter at the time, “Is Dad going to wear a tie and do this waltz?”
Of the moment, the Goop founder admitted that her family was happy to oblige Apple for the invite-only honor, despite it being very different than what they are used to.
“Sometimes we need some levity, and we need frosting on the cake,” the Iron Man actress said of the weekend. “It was honestly one of the most special weekends of my entire life.”
Indeed, at the time Gwyneth shared a photo of her and Apple—who wore a custom ruffled gown made by Valentino’s creative director Alessandro Michele—and gushed about the moment.
“My beautiful daughter,” Gwyneth wrote on her Instagram Story next to a picture of her posing alongside the Vanderbilt University student, “in @maisonvalentino.”
For his part, the rocker was happy to step out of his comfort zone for his daughter.
The soirée was “so not something I ever thought I’d do,” the “Yellow” singer told Rolling Stone in an interview published Dec. 19, “but because I’m so in love with her, I’m like, ‘OK.'”
Amid the internet’s perception of her kids, Gwyneth understands why they would face uncomfortable situations as they navigate the world without their famous parents.
“Look, they’re the children of two super-famous people, and so they understand what comes with that,” she told Vanity Fair. “They’ve grown up in it. You would be surprised at how lovely and unassuming and down-to-earth they are.”
