There’s no need for a revelio spell: HBO has finally revealed the casting for Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
So without further ado, meet the three young actors who received their Hogwarts letters: Dominic McLaughlin will star as the Chosen One, Arabella Stanton will be the brightest witch of her age and redheaded Alastair Stout will portray the second youngest Weasley sibling.
“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod shared in a statement as part of the network’s May 27 press release. “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
The three young stars—taking up the mantle left by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint—are relative newcomers to the industry: McLaughlin’s only other major credit is in the upcoming comedy Grow, Staunton enjoyed a turn in the theater as Matilda in the West End’s Matilda while Harry Potter marks Stout’s first major role.
Thankfully, they’ve already got an impressive array of veteran actors and other newcomers who will be with them every step of the way. The announcement of McLaughlin, Staunton and Stout’s roles comes shortly after casting was confirmed for Albus Dumbledore (John Lithgow), Severus Snape (Paapa Essiedu), Minerva McGonagall (Janet McTeer), Rubeus Hagrid (Nick Frost), Argus Filch (Paul Whitehouse) and Quirinus Quirrel (Luke Thallon).
Each casting announcement has been highly anticipated by fans—Lithgow even confessed in March that fans were stopping him in airports over casting rumors weeks before his being Dumbledore was confirmed.
After all, the ones that love us never truly leave us, and despite Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two premiering more than a decade ago, fans have been clamoring for more of anything related to the franchise.
It’s partly what influenced Lithgow to accept the role.
“Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter,” the 79-year-old told ScreenRant in an interview published Feb. 26. “That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”
As he noted, “It’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid. But I’m very excited.”
But while fans will have to wait awhile before once again receiving their Hogwarts acceptance letters—the series’ first installment is expected to release some time in 2026—there is much to be excited for. Keep reading to learn more about the next generation of Harry Potter.
