Jason Kelce is embracing a new season.
But this time, it’s off the field. Since retiring from the NFL in March 2024, the former Philadelphia Eagles center has undergone quite a few changes. These include tackling his new role as a sports analyst, adding daughter Finnley (who joined big sisters Wyatt, Elliotte and Bennett) to his and wife Kylie Kelce‘s squad in March, celebrating brother Travis Kelce’s engagement to Taylor Swift and embarking on a weight loss journey.
“I’m gonna slim down,” Jason said on a March 2024 episode of his and Travis’ podcast New Heights. “My goal is 250.”
All he had to do was figure out the Xs and Os of how he was going to get there.
“I don’t personally subscribe to doing extreme diets, like going all the way vegan or all the way carnivore or keto,” the athlete continued. Instead, he added, “I downloaded MyFitnessPal and just start tracking calories. I feel like as long as I maintain my protein intake so I keep my muscle and just kind of limit the calories, you’ll start to lose weight.”
And Travis was confident in his brother’s ability to execute this game strategy. “This guy’s got a plan in place,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end noted. “And when Jason Kelce has a plan, it’s f–king done with.”
Just a few months later, Jason revealed he’d already gained some yardage towards his goal.
“Right now, I’m about 277,” he told GQ that June. “I’m almost 20 pounds down right now. It’s hard to imagine another nearly 20 pounds coming off, being honest with you.”
And the Super Bowl champ—who shared he weighed 295 pounds for most of his NFL career—could feel the difference.
“My back already feels better,” he continued. “My knees already feel better. So another 20 pounds hopefully will make that much more adept at playing with my children.”
Still, Kylie didn’t want Jason to change too much.
“I was working out the other day,” he recalled on an October episode of the Centered on Buffalo podcast. “Kylie’s like, ‘If you get a six-pack, I will be furious.’ I’m like, ‘All right, I guess that’s not happening.'”
What was happening, however, was a friendly competition between Jason and former teammate Beau Allen over who could lose the most body fat percentage while still gaining muscle.
“This is why you’re still playing football,” the 37-year-old told Travis on a March episode of New Heights, “because when you retire, you have to do stupid competitions like this to keep your sanity.”
As for the stakes, Jason—who noted he was starting at 276.6 pounds with 21 percent body fat—said the loser of the competition had to get a bikini wax and wear a speedo to the Eagles Autism Foundation fundraiser that June. And when Beau was declared the victor, Jason stayed true to his word.
“I, over the course of this whole thing, ended up losing close to 3 percent body fat and I lost right around nine or 10 pounds of fat,” Jason said on a July episode of the podcast, explaining that he gained no muscle while Beau lost 2 percent body fat and gained four pounds of muscle. “So ultimately, we’re both winners in my book, but I definitely was the loser of the bet.”
As time has gone on, the NFL alum has continued to document his workouts and new physique. However, this isn’t the only transformation he’s undergone. In August, Jason revealed he dyed his gray beard dark brown to appear younger in a bit for his and Travis’ brand Garage Beer. Although, he admitted things didn’t exactly go according to plan.
“This is not the right color. It’s way too dark,” Jason said on an August episode of New Heights. “It looks like I took shoe polish to my face.”
In fact, he thought he looked like Billy Mays. “I miss my grays. I can’t wait for this to grow back out,” Jason added. “It is kind of growing on me though. I do feel like I look pretty good with a dark beard. I’m not gonna lie.”
