The 2025 Emmy Awards was about more than a trophy.

As Hollywood celebrated the biggest night in television on Sept. 14, some celebrities proved their weight in gold as they were honored for their historic wins and nominations.

Take, for instance, Adolescence‘s Owen Cooper, who became the youngest performer to earn the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and the youngest-ever male Emmy winner.

The 15-year-old reflected on his journey, sharing a powerful message about authenticity and self-assurance. As he explained on stage during his acceptance speech, “Tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life… Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible.” (See all the winners here.)

Meanwhile, Severance‘s Tramell Tillman made history as the first Black man to win in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. As the 40-year-old accepted his trophy, he expressed gratitude to his mom in the audience.

“Mama, you were there for me when no one else was and no one else would show up,” he gushed. “Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you.”

But it wasn’t just actors who made history. Indeed, The Studio—which took home Outstanding Comedy Series and Seth Rogen‘s Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series—broke the all-time record for most wins for a comedy series with 13 golden statuettes. Prior to last night, The Bear set the record in 2023 with 10 wins. The Studio, which earned 23 nominations, also broke the record for first-season comedy series wins.

While the winners made history at the 77th annual ceremony, some of the evening’s nominees did, too. Ayo Edebiri‘s nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category as well as Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for The Bear, made the 29-year-old the youngest Black woman nominated for three acting Emmys in her career, which included a 2023 win. For 21-year-oldBella Ramsey, their recognition in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for The Last of Us made them the youngest two-time nominee in the category, as well as the first non-binary person to be nominated for more than one Emmy.

Kathy Bates—who became the oldest nominee in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Matlock at age 77—admitted that she never expected to be recognized. In fact, before Kathy joined the CBS show, she was planning to bid farewell to acting.

“I just feel so lucky to have such a strong foundation behind us and the show,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2024. “It’s a miracle; we all keep pinching ourselves. The crew loves it. The actors love it. I know everyone says that when they’re marketing a show, but this is really unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I really can’t believe all this, especially at my age.”
