How Sarah Jessica Parker Really Feels About And Just Like That’s Hate-Watchers

Watch:Sarah Jessica Parker Reacts to ‘And Just Like That’ Hate-Watchers

Sarah Jessica Parker can’t help but not wonder what some people think of And Just Like That.

After the Sex and the Cityrevival concluded its third and final season, the actress shared her thoughts on viewers who chose to hate-watch the show.

“I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that,” Parker told The New York Times in an interview published Aug. 15. “We always worked incredibly hard to tell stories that were interesting or real. I guess I don’t really care.”

“The reason I don’t care is because it has been so enormously successful,” she continued, “and the connections it has made with audiences have been very meaningful.”

For the star—who played columnist Carrie Bradshaw for nearly three decades—saying goodbye to her character now felt right.

“We could have gone on doing coffee shops,” the 60-year-old explained. “There’s a million ways to do it that are easy and familiar and fun, but feel exploitative to us. We felt this was the honorable thing to do.”

“It’s very easy to stay,” she admitted. “It’s where we’re all happy. But you have to be principled when you make these very difficult, agonizing decisions because there’s a lot of people who are affected.”

Parker echoed showrunner Michael Patrick King‘s perspective on the decision. As he wrote in an Aug.1 statement, “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

“We decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12,” he noted. “It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

Following the team’s decision to bid farewell to Carrie, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), King emphasized that he’s content with where the story ended.

“I really do want people to understand that this was about telling these stories and bringing them to a place where there was a finish,” he told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month. “And by ‘finish,’ I mean an open-ended finish, where each of the characters’ lives could continue and you could feel good about it for all of them.”

As he put it, “It’s what you want to write now that we’re done. We’re done writing.”

And with Carrie closing out the series single, the writer-director even paid homage to the OG series finale.

“The last line: The Woman realized she wasn’t alone. She was on her own. That’s it,” King added. “That is what I wanted to say as an echo and a callback and a response to the finale of Sex and the City.”

Although AJLT may be over, the characters’ fashion will live on forever. Keep reading to see the most iconic looks from the SATCrevival.
