Jana Kramer and Allan Russell said “I do” two times.
When the One Tree Hill alum and the former soccer star tied the knot in Scotland last July, the duo were already legally husband and wife as they recently confessed they had privately tied the knot several months prior.
“We got married in January,” Allan said on Jana’s Whine Down podcast March 11. “And we made it formal to people in July.”
Jana—who shares son Roman, 16, months with Allan as well as Jolie, 9, and Jace, 6, with ex Mike Caussin —detailed how it all went down after a woman at the courthouse revealed she had a son who was a notary and could perform a simple ceremony at their house.
“It was like three o’clock in the afternoon before the kids came home,” she recalled. “He came over and he’s like, ‘All right, so no vows?’ I was like, ‘No, we want to make that special, keep it to that day.’ And it was, the piece of paper. We signed it. He [Allan] put the ring on.”
“I didn’t put my ring on,” Jana, 41, admitted. “We saved that as well too. But just to have that little something for us, that was special to us, that we didn’t announce to everybody.”
The couple—who began dating in 2023—emphasized that despite Allan, 44, wearing his ring sparking speculation they had married, they agreed to not address the rumors.
“You started wearing your ring and there were a lot of questions if we got married,” the “I Got the Boy” singer remembered. “And we didn’t answer them.”
With Allan fully understanding the questions adding, “Of course, because I’m walking around with a ring on.”
Aside from making sure all the paperwork was in place before their wedding in Allan’s native Scotland, the pair had just welcomed their little boy and were eager to make their union official.
“I think part of it was also a lot of a lot of people in our situation, i. e. foreign U.K. people, were making the legalities and the formalities long before the wedding,” Allan explained. “Just so they could focus on the planning of the wedding. Also, we were like desperate to marry each other.”
For Jana, after being open with many aspects of her personal life, she wanted one thing between her and her husband.
“With this, it was nice to not say anything and let people think whatever they wanted to think,” she noted. “Because I didn’t want to share, and it was something between us that we decided that we weren’t’ going to elaborate on it.”
“There was something so beautiful and just private and precious about us holding that together,” she continued. “And it just being like just us having that together without the whole world.”
