Jay-Z Joins Beyoncé Onstage in Surprise Appearance for Paris Cowboy Carter Show

Beyoncé made an upgrade to her Cowboy Carter tour setlist.

And she did it with the help of a surprise guest: her husband Jay-Z. The “Empire State of Mind” singer shocked the crowd inside the Stade de France for the final “Cowboy Carter tour stop in France June 22 after he took the stage with his wife for the first time in seven years.

Jay-Z dressed for the occasion in all-black overalls and bolo tie, which he paired with his signature Timberland boots. He and Beyoncé performed their 2003 hit “Crazy in Love,” before launching into his hit “N—-as in Paris,” which he originally performed with Kanye West.

Changing up the lyrics to suit Queen Bey, Jay-Z rapped, “Might let you meet Bey, H-Town’s hero” instead of the original line, “Might let you meet Ye, Chi-Town’s hero,” paying homage to his wife’s hometown of Houston, Texas.

And while Jay—who tied the knot with Beyoncé in 2008—left the stage after his songs, the couple had the crowd on their feet, including celebrity guests Cardi B and Kelly Rowland. Beyoncé then rounded out the moment with 2013’s “Drunk in Love” remixed with her song “Partition.”

Jay-Z’s appearance marked the first time the couple—who share children Blue Ivy, 13, and twins Rumi and Sir Carter, 8—have shared the stage together since 2018 when they performed at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event and comes on the heels of his rare public outing June 21 at the Fanatics Fest in NYC.

Sharing pieces of the moment with her fans, Beyoncé shared images of her and Jay-Z posing backstage after the show on Instagram.

And the rapper isn’t the only surprise guest Beyoncé has welcomed to the stage. Just days earlier, Miley Cyrus became the first guest of the Cowboy Carter tour, joining Beyoncé for their Grammy-winning duet “II Most Wanted” during the June 19 show.

But with Jay-Z’s appearance, Cowboy Carter has officially become a family affair. Each night since the beginning of the tour, Beyoncé has been joined by Blue Ivy, who has become a principal dancer in the show, and even has her own solo dance break to her mother’s hit “Deju Vu.” What’s more, Rumi has also stolen the show with her sweet moments during “16 Carriages” and with her big sister during “Protector.”

And since Bey and Jay’s daughters have shared their talents with the world, their parents aren’t the only people in awe by their star power. Tina Knowles previously gushed over her granddaughters’ stage presences.

“Oh, I’m so proud of Rumi,” the Matriarch author told E! News in March. “All of my grandchildren, all of them are amazing.”
