Jessica Simpson’s wardrobe malfunction was a public affair.
As the “Take My Breath Away” singer took the Today Show stage to perform new music on TV for the first time in 15 years, her boots did all the walkin’, but her outfit had a little mishap.
While singing in a sparkly fringe jacket draped over a strapless creme-colored, corseted dress, one side of her neckline slipped down to reveal the pink bra padding she wore underneath. Once she realized the faux pas, Jessica fixed her wardrobe and later addressed it with a laugh.
“Of course I had a malfunction here and everywhere, but it’s OK,” she told the Today anchors July 23, motioning toward her head and the space around her. “I think my boobs stayed in, so it’s OK.”
The Newlywedsalum also channeled that shake-it-off attitude ahead of her performance to prevent any nerves, saying it felt “insane” to be returning to the stage.
“Today it was like, ‘Okay, get out of your head. Get out of your head. Who cares if your shoe falls off? Who cares if you forget a lyric?’” Jessica explained during her segment on Today With Jenna & Friends. “Honestly, it’s just about being able to be up there and be vulnerable and that feels really beautiful.”
And that vulnerability is present throughout her new album Nashville Canyon: Part 1, which features songs about her breakup from ex Eric Johnson, with whom she finalized her divorce in January.
“It’s been almost two years now,” Jessica continued of her split. “I thought I was going to be doing this inspirational type of record, and it ended up leaning more towards, ‘How do I get through this moment?’ Because my whole life just completely changed while making this record, and it became something I never would have expected.”
Plus, the Jessica Simpson Collection founder—who shares kidsMaxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6, with Eric—is excited by what the unexpected album can teach her kids.
“There’s blessings in the pain. You can find beauty in the pain,” she added. “I want my daughters or my son to know that. No matter what we go through in life, nothing can take us down. Nothing. As long as we are who we are and we know our purpose and we’re guided by that.”
