Jon Stewart cannot believe his fucking ears. You’ll have to forgive the swear word — there were a lot of them on Monday’s Daily Show.
Stewart, like his fellow late night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, tackled the latest miserable news out of Minneapolis: the killing of Alex Pretti by ICE agents. Pretti, who brought a firearm and extra clips to protest the ongoing ICE presence, attempted to intervene when an agent shoved a woman to the ground. Pretti, an ICU nurse, was disarmed and shot to death by agents.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Border Patrol are publicly supporting the ICE agents, though they do not appear to be peddling the most accurate recount of the tragic incident. An overwhelming amount of video evidence seems to contradict the assertion that Pretti “brandished” his own weapon, as government officials have repeatedly stated.
“It looks like we’ve got a case of ‘He Said/Video Totally Disproves What He Said,’” as Stewart put it.
A central figure defending the shooting of Pretti is Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino, who “appears to be just a new character the Trump Cinematic Universe has introduced,” Stewart said.
“Where the fuck did this guy even come from?” he continued. “It’s his first season on the show.”
The TCU is undoubtedly the worst CU.
What is especially “blowing [Stewart’s] fucking mind” is how now, all of a sudden, guns are the problem. Federal law enforcement agents and many conservative pundits have spent the past 72 hours blaming Pretti for bringing a gun to a sign fight.
“Are you fucking kidding me right now?” Stewart said. “Is that what you’re saying on the right? Are you saying that the problem was the guy had a gun? Are you saying that the guns are the problem?”
“This is blowing my fucking mind,” Stewart said. “Come on, guys — guns are your whole personality!”
