Josh Hartnett Jokes He’s “Ghosting Social Media for Another 10 Years” in Rare Video

Watch: First Look at Verity’s Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett on Set of Colleen Hoover Movie

Josh Hartnett isn’t falling into the social media trap.

However, he did recently make a brief appearance on Instagram—although it wasn’t his decision.

In the video shared on the official account for his latest film Fight or Flight, half of Josh’s face appears on the screen, while the viral clicking sound plays as he mimics typing on the phone. Over the video, shared April 23, the caption reads, “Me promoting my film before ghosting social media for another 10 years.”

Alongside the video, the Trap actor explained his brief appearance on social media. “When your team insists on a social media content day to promote your new film, Fight or Flight (in theaters May 9),” he explained in the caption, “but you don’t get any of these viral trends.”

However, fans celebrating the rare social media appearance, made it clear they hope Josh doesn’t actually wait another decade, with one person writing, “also here for the Hartnettaissance,” and another adding, “JOSH, don’t do it! We need you. The Hartnettaissance isn’t over!”

Josh, 46, hasn’t been a stranger to trying viral trends in the name of promoting his latest action flick.

In fact, the Oppenheimer actor appeared in a video with the viral “approved” sound as he determined that “action on an airplane” makes a good film. In another clip, Josh lip synched the “hell yeah” trend over the caption, “Wanna do and action movie? On an airplane? And dye your hair blonde.”

And while it looks like he’s gotten the hang of social media, Josh probably isn’t joking when it comes to his privacy. The Pearl Harbor star has been open about his decision to step away from Hollywood, after finding fame in the early aughts, and live a quiet life in England with his wife Tamsin Egerton and their four children.

However, it doesn’t mean that Josh hasn’t been celebrating all the love he’s received since he’s gradually made his way back to Hollywood in the last few years.

“It’s extremely gratifying that people are interested in what I’m doing,” he told E! News in July. “I mean, we don’t make movies for ourselves, we make them for an audience. As much as I like to challenge myself, I also want the audience to want to go on that ride. So, it’s extremely gratifying that people are liking what I’m doing right now.”
