Fans are saying goodbye to Judge Frank Caprio.

The beloved TV judge, who was known for his warmhearted approach on the courtroom series Caught in Providence, died at age 88 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, his family announced.

“Beloved for his compassion, humility and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond,” read an Aug. 20 post on his Instagram page. “His warmth, humor and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.”

The post also noted that the late television personality—who earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Personality in 2024—would be remembered for “the countless acts of kindness he inspired.”

“In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world,” the message continued alongside photos of Caprio and his loved ones, “just as he did every day.”

Caprio—who also served as Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Providence, R.I., from 1985 to 2023—first shared his cancer diagnosis on Instagram in December 2023, noting at the time that he was “fully prepared to fight” the disease.

But just one day before his passing, Caprio asked his followers for their support once more in what would be his final video address, noting that their encouragement had helped him through his first bout with the illness.

“Last year, I asked you to pray for me,” he said from his hospital bed in a clip posted on Instagram Aug. 19, “and it’s very obvious that you did, because I came through a very difficult period.”

“Unfortunately, I’ve had a setback,” he continued. “I’m coming to you again, asking you to remember me in your prayers once more… I’m a great believer in the power of prayers. I think the Almighty above is looking over us. So remember me, please.”
