Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid Defends Taylor Swift After She Got Booed at Super Bowl

Watch:Chiefs’ Andy Reid Reveals How Taylor Swift Teased Travis Kelce

Andy Reid has joined the Tortured Poets defense team.

The Kansas City Chiefs coach is the latest person to offer support to Taylor Swift, girlfriend of the team’s tight end Travis Kelce, who received a less than warm welcome at the Super Bowl LIX earlier this month.

“She’s a good girl, she handles that whole thing the right way,” Reid, 65, said in a Feb. 26 appearance on NBC’s ProFootballTalk, describing the moment at the New Orleans event as a “tough deal.” “Kelce, I think, does a great job of handling it.”

During the Feb. 9 game between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, Taylor—who was joined by Ice Spice and the band HAIM—was shown on the stadium’s jumbotron. And while other stars received a rousing welcome from the NFL crowd, the Midnights singer was booed the moment she appeared on the screen. She noticed the response and looked over to the camera, before swiftly laughing it off.

The interaction went viral, and other stars defended Taylor, 35, from the surprising criticism. The Eagles’ running back, Saquon Barkley, told Howard Stern on Feb. 12 that he didn’t understand why the singer “was getting hate,” while Travis’ sister-in-law Kylie Kelce liked a supportive Instagram post from sportscaster Erin Andrews, who complimented Taylor as an “amazing woman” following the crowd’s icy reaction.

Andy echoed the sentiment and described the “Karma” star as “part of the team.” “Like the other girlfriends and wives, she’s a part of it,” the head coach continued. “That’s all part of the process.”

Andy also shared the advice he gave to Travis as he’s been quietly handling rumors that he’ll retire from the Chiefs Kingdom this year.

“Don’t think about all that. Just…relax, man,” he reflected on their conversation following the team’s championship loss. “Chill down, we have time for that.”
