Kim Kardashian Buys Back SKKN Beauty Brand 4 Years After $200 Million Deal

Kim Kardashian is keeping up with business.

Four years after striking a $200 million deal with Coty—the parent company behind makeup brands Sally Hansen and Max Factor—for 20 percent of her beauty business, the Kardashians star has bought back the stakes with plans to fold it into her SKIMS empire.

“My mission has always been to create products that resonate deeply—whether it’s shapewear and lingerie that empowers or make-up and skincare that transforms,” Kim shared in a March 24 press release. “Uniting everything under the SKIMS brand streamlines that vision.”

According to SKIMS, the new deal will expand the company’s portfolio beyond apparel into beauty, skincare and fragrance.

“This acquisition isn’t just growth,” SKIMS CEO Jens Grede added in his own statement. “It’s about the strength of our brand and our ability to enter a new category with authority.”

The acquisition, however, does not affect Coty’s 51 percent stake in Kylie Cosmetics, the beauty company Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner founded in 2014 and sold in a $600 million partnership deal in 2019.

As Coty exec and Kylie Cosmetics CEO Anna von Bayern put it in a separate press release, “I would like to thank Kim for the partnership and look forward to continuing our work on our hugely successful Kylie Cosmetics brand, which we have grown by 1.5x in the last two years and where we own the majority, as well as hold the perpetual license.”

Kim first launched her makeup label KKW Beauty in 2017. She shuttered the brand in 2021 amid her divorce from Kanye West, before rebranding her beauty business to SKKN by Kim the following year with an added focus on skincare and lifestyle.

“Kanye actually helped her and gave feedback with the design,” a source told E! News at the time, adding the rebranding had been “in the works” for some time and was not related to her breakup with “Famous” rapper, with whom she shares kids North, 11, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 5.

Last year, Kim and Kanye’s oldest daughter North revealed that she, too, would like to establish her own business.

“One day I want to own Yeezy and SKIMS,” she told i-D of her parents’ companies. “And I want to be a business owner.”

For now, keep reading to see Kim’s evolution through the years.
