Kit Harington and Sophie Turner may be playing lovers in their new film, The Dreadful, but in reality, it’s their worst nightmare.
During an on-set clip recently released by Entertainment Tonight of the two actors filming a kissing scene, the pair began to gag viscerally after the director yelled, “Cut. Beautiful.”
While that probably isn’t the initial reaction you would want to receive after kissing someone, even as actors, it’s a bit of a different situation for Harington and Turner. Prior to shooting The Dreadful, they played half-siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark on eight seasons of the HBO Emmy-winning series, Game of Thrones.
The Dreadful follows Anne (Turner) and her mother-in-law, Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden), who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man, played by Harington, from their past returns, he will set off a sequence of horrifying events that will change Anne’s life forever.
Last year, when asked what it was like playing love interest onscreen, Harington described it as “a bit weird.”
“She was [the] one that sent that movie to me and somehow didn’t see what I saw in it,” he told E! News in November. “I was like, ‘These guys, these are lovers, right?’ I felt very odd about that.”
He added, “It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me. But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact.”
Ahead of the film’s release on Friday, Frank Scheck wrote in his review for THR, “The Dreadful is the sort of film that prides itself on being a slow burn but ultimately more resembles a fizzle. Except for Marcia Gay Harden. By all means, give her character a sequel.”
