Landman has struck oil, so it comes to little surprise that the series has now been renewed for a third season.

Paramount+ announced the renewal of the megahit Taylor Sheridan series starring Billy Bob Thornton on Friday. The West Texas-set drama has been a success ever since it first began drilling. The first season was one of the biggest shows of 2024-25, averaging 15.8 million viewers in Nielsen’s 35-day, cross-platform ratings.

The currently airing second season continues to break viewership records — the Nov. 16 premiere nabbed the biggest season or series premiere in Paramount+’s history with 9.2 million views worldwide over its first few days, more than tripling last year’s series debut.

The fourth episode of season two releases on Sunday, and the creative team and cast have made it clear that season two could be only the beginning when it comes to the future of the series.

“We barely skimmed the surface in season one and, after season two, I feel like we’re still just skimming the surface,” showrunner Christian Wallace, who created the series with Sheridan, told THR. Season one took place over 10 days, and season two is unfolding at a similar pace.

“We got to know these characters in season one, and now we get to spend more time with them in season two. We get to raise the stakes,” Wallace added. “They are so fun to be around. This world is so rich — West Texas, oil and gas, Fort Worth, the upstairs downstairs of this whole thing. It’s such fertile soil for storytelling. Our cast has added so much depth to the characters. They know them so well now that they make it easy to tell an entertaining story.”

Thornton, when speaking about how he signed a multi-year deal for four-to-five years of the series, told THR he wants to do Landman “as long as I’m able” or until the story runs out. “I think Landman, as an entity, will know when it’s over,” he said of more seasons to come. His co-stars Sam Elliott, Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph similarly echoed those feelings in recent conversations.

“By the end of season two, there’s so much story still left to tell; so much for these characters. I could see the show going for a long time. We wouldn’t run out of things,” Randolph told THR.

The second season follows Thornton’s oil fixer Tommy Norris (Thornton), who is now facing mounting pressure since taking over M-Tex Oil with widowed CEO Cami Miller (Demi Moore), as well as handling the pressure from his family life. The series is based on the Texas Monthly podcast Boomtown that was hosted by Wallace.

Season two also stars Andy Garcia, Jacob Lofland, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Colm Feore.

Landman is produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions.

The series is executive produced by Sheridan, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Wallace, Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and director Stephen Kay. Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch for Imperative Entertainment, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt for Texas Monthly also executive produce. Tommy Turtle is co-executive producer.
