Lauryn Hill is out on the town for one thing, and that thing is fashion.
The Grammy winning musician made a series of rare public appearances as she stepped out for New York Fashion Week. Lauryn, 50, was joined by her and Rohan Marley’s 26-year-old daughter Selah as they began their day front row at the COS presentation in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 14.
For the outing, the “Ex-Factor” singer stood alongside her daughter in a wool jacket layered under a neck high leather shirt from the Autumn/Winter collection. Adding an extra flare to her outfit, Lauryn rocked a red hat over her beaded braids. For her glam, the “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” singer rocked sultry blue smokey eyeshadow with a deep plum lip.
For her part, Selah wore a structured blazer dress from the fashion houses’ Autumn/Winter 2025 collection with dark sunglasses. Lauryn and Selah—who is the granddaughter of legendary reggae singer Bob Marley—were seated in the front row with Jodie Turner Smith, Chris Briney and Naomi Watts.
Lauryn and Selah also shocked the crowd as they appeared at the KidSuper fashion show held outside of the Brooklyn Borough Hall. For her part, Lauryn wore a floor-length trench coat layered over a striped shirt. Completing her look, the Fugees alum rocked oversized dark shades and a New York Yankees hat. Selah opted for another blazer dress, this time coordinating colors with her mom.
Lauryn’s back-to-back public events is a rare move for the music legend—who has taken to life outside of the spotlight if she’s not on the stage.
Indeed, Lauryn has kept a low profile since headlining both the Wireless Music Festival and Essence Culture and Arts Festival in July. Just two months prior, the “Ready or Not” rapper beamed in yellow as she marked her first appearance at the Met Gala.
And amid her head-turning appearance, Lauryn previously detailed living a life out of the public eye.
“There were definitely things I enjoyed about stardom, but there were definitely things I didn’t enjoy,” she told Rolling Stone in 2021. “I think most people appreciate being recognized and appreciated for their work and sacrifice. That, to me, is a given, but living a real life is essential for anyone trying to stay connected to reality and continue making things that truly affect people. This becomes increasingly harder to do in the ‘space’ people try to place ‘star’ in.”
Lauryn added, “The pedestal, to me, is as much about containment and control as it is adulation. Finding balance, clarity and sobriety can be very hard for some to maintain.”
