Malcolm McDowell isn’t keeping up with Emily Cooper’s adventures abroad.
In fact, the A Clockwork Orange actor recently admitted he doesn’t watch Emily in Paris, despite being the father-in-law of the popular Netflix series’ star Lily Collins.
“To be honest with you, it’s not my kind of thing,” Malcolm told People in an interview published Aug. 23, “and Lily knows that.”
But while he’s not pressing play on her hit show, the 82-year-old is a huge supporter of Lily, who is married to his and ex Mary Steengurgen‘s son Charlie McDowell.
“But I’m the biggest fan of my daughter-in-law,” Malcolm added. “I think she’s absolutely one of the great actresses.”
“She has such a beautiful quality,” the British acting legend gushed. “As far as I’m concerned, when she’s on the screen, there’s nobody else on it.”
Malcolm even credited Lily’s show for inspiring tourists to visit the French capital where the series is set.
As he noted of Phil Collins‘ 36-year-old daughter, “I’m sure [it] has gone up so much from people in the United States watching and going, ‘Yeah, let’s go to Paris.'”
But while Malcolm hasn’t tuned in to the past four seasons, a new location might change his mind.
Netflix recently revealed Emily is headed to Venice, Italy in the upcoming fifth season.
As the streamer teased in an Aug. 20 announcement, “Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks.”
“Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle,” the press release continued, “until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.”
Returning for season five alongside Lily are costars Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Eugenio Franceschini, Samuel Arnold and Bruno Gouery while Camille Razat revealed earlier this year she will not reprise her role of Camille when the show returns.
