Maren Morris Shares Message of Gratitude to Fans One Year After Coming Out as Bisexual

Maren Morris is meeting her supporters in the middle.

One year after the “80s Mercedes” singer came out as bisexual, she celebrated her first Pride Month with a touching message to her fans.

“Thank you guys, girls and everyone in between for supporting me,” the 35-year-old said during her performance at West Hollywood’s OUTLOUD Festival May 30. “Last summer, I didn’t want to make a big press release or anything. I just wanted to say it and be normal. What I did not expect—which was so kind—was the open arms, warmth, and support from y’all.”

Maren then performed “because, of course” from her latest Dreamsicle album, dedicating the sweet anthem to her 5-year-old son Hayes Andrews

“He’s at such a fun age right now where he’s exploring every facet of his personality,” she said of her only child during the show—whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Hurd, 37—during the show. “He loves color, arts and crafts, musicals—he’s obsessed with Wicked, if I have to do anything with it. I wrote this song for him.”

Her appreciation didn’t stop there, as she reflected on her debut show at the festival on Instagram.

“Performing at my first Pride since I came out last summer,” the country-pop star wrote on the post, which sees her performing in a vibrant bell-sleeved top and leather pants. “@wehopride couldn’t have been a more welcoming party. Happy Pride month.”

Indeed, Maren’s coming out note was just as straightforward. While sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her RSVP: Redux Tour last June, she posted a photo of her holding a Pride flag.

“Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, “Happy pride.”

Maren’s personal shoutout comes shortly after she detailed her dating life following her divorce from Ryan, whom she was married to for six years until their 2024 split. While she’s had a “positive” experience dating women, she noted that she’s still learning the line between friendship and romantic connection.

“Sometimes I just love a woman and we’re friends,” she explained on the May 9 episode of the U Up? podcast. “Then she’s giving me a vibe of, like, she’s gonna kiss me, and I feel like we’re just friends, but I really connect with you on this emotionally deep level.”
