Mariska Hargitay‘s whole family unit is on the Cannes Film Festival case.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star walked the red carpet with her husband of 21 years Peter Hermann and their three kids for the premiere of her new film My Mom Jayne in the French city.
During the May 17 outing, Mariska—wearing a stunning floor-length, pink sparkly gown that featured black satin off-the-shoulder detailing—posed for cameras while holding hands with her son August Miklos Friedrich Hermann, 17, who donned a classic black tux. On her other side, her daughter Amaya Josephine Hermann, 12, coordinated her mom in a sparkly black mini dress and strappy black heels.
Meanwhile, Andrew Nicolas Hermann, also 12, rocked his own formal getup while standing next to his dad, 57, who put a comforting hand on his youngest’s shoulder.
But the rare family outing wasn’t all there was to celebrate at the premiere. After all, Mariska made her directorial debut with My Mom Jayne, a documentary which examines the life of the actress’ late mother, Jayne Mansfield.
For Mariska—who was 3 years old when her mom died in a tragic collision at age 34—directing and producing the film was a way to learn more about the 1950s Hollywood star, who appeared in films like Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? and The Girl Can’t Help It.
“I never got to make a movie with my mom, and she never got to make the kind of movies she wanted to make,” the 61-year-old wrote on Instagram April 8. “#MyMomJayne is a place of meeting for us, and words fail me to describe how meaningful it is to tell her story, my own, and ours together.”
As for how Mariska—whose dad was actor and bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay—went about uncovering details about her mom’s life? The ER alum revealed that the documentary, premiering on HBO Max in June, gathered “intimate interviews and a collection of never-before-seen photos and home movies.”
“This movie is a labor of love and longing,” Mariska continued in a press release. “I’ve always believed there is strength in vulnerability, and the process of making this film has confirmed that belief like never before.”
