Netflix has ordered a series set in Las Vegas from three people who know the territory well: Casino director Martin Scorsese and Ocean’s Thirteen writers and Billions co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
The streamer has given an eight-episode order to the drama, which will center on the president of a hot Las Vegas hotel/casino and the moves he makes to secure and expand his position in the city. Koppelman and Levien are writing the currently untitled show and will serve as showrunners.
The pair will executive produce with Scorsese and his Sikelia Productions, Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn of Expanded Media, Paul Schiff and Beth Schacter. Kerry Orent is co-exec producer.
The Vegas drama will be the first series for Koppelman and Levien since Billions ended its seven-season run on Showtime in 2023. Former Showtime and MTV Entertainment head Chris McCarthy had announced plans for several spinoffs of the series, but those fell away with the Paramount-Skydance merger and McCarthy’s subsequent exit from the company.
In addition to Billions and Ocean’s Thirteen, Koppelman and Levien created Showtime’s Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber and ESPN’s poker drama Tilt and wrote the screenplays for Rounders and Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience, among others. Scorsese’s TV work includes executive producing and directing the pilot episodes of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl and directing, exec producing and appearing in Netflix’s docuseries Pretend It’s a City.
