Lizzois being 100 percent that honest about the 2025 Met Gala.
The “Truth Hurts” singer—who stepped out for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit in New York City on May 5—revealed that oftentimes celebrities score their after-party invites once they’re already inside the event.
“Typically, your publicist is talking to other publicists,” Lizzo said on TikTok Live May 6, “and they’re making it happen.”
This year, however, the Grammy winner had to rely on herself—and her friend and fellow musician Kaytranada.
“I didn’t know about no parties,” she continued. “I happened to sit next to Kaytranada, and he was DJing all three [after-parties], so I was like, ‘I’m just gonna go to whatever parties you’re at.’”
Lizzo—who walked the Gala’s carpet in a custom black-and-white Christian Siriano gown, and accessorized with a cigarette holder, Smiling Rocks haute couture jewelry and blond bombshell hair style—also advocated to one of the night’s co-chairs A$AP Rocky, who was hosting his own after-party.
“I heard he was having a party and I was like, ‘Hey, is there any way I could possibly get into your party?’” she recalled. “And he was like, ‘You good, just walk up.’ I was like, ‘OK, I’m scared I’m gonna get turned away.’”
She added, “But yeah, you kind of just mix and mingle and you ask people stuff.”
But after-party details weren’t the only peeks behind the curtain that Lizzo shared about fashion’s biggest night. In fact, she explained what happened during the benefit gala, too.
“You walk through the front and they have a nice installation at the front,” she shared. “This year was flowers, but also a men’s gospel choir—it was beautiful. So, you walk in and then there’s cocktail hour and they pass out hors d’oeuvres, they pass out drinks. Everybody’s mingling, talking, you loosen up a little bit.”
She added, “Then you go into the main room where there is dinner served, and it’s a beautiful dinner. They assign your seat. They like to mix it up so that you are next to somebody new, so you can have a new conversation. And I’m always sitting next to somebody so interesting, so cool.”
And after the meal, there was a special ending to the event led by co-chairs A$AP, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
“Everybody sits down and all of the [co-chairs] come out,” Lizzo said. “They give a speech that talks about the theme of the year. And it was really beautiful this year.”
