Tyla‘s 2025 Met Gala ensemble is guaranteed to top the charts.
The “Water” singer stepped out for the annual fashion event in New York on May 5, and her glamorous look certainly stole the spotlight while she made her way across the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (To see every star who stunned at the 2025 Met Gala, click here.)
For the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”-themed fundraiser, Tyla showed out in a ‘fit that featured a white pinstripe off-the-shoulder dress and a lengthy train. To top off her stunning attire, the 23-year-old had her golden hair in an elegant curly updo.
And as for the beauty? Makeup artist Pat McGrath broke down the inspo.
“For Tyla’s makeup, we were channeling vintage Hollywood glamour—icons like Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, and Jean Harlow—with a modern twist,” she said in a statement. “The look focused on sultry smokey eyes using warm nudes and deep browns from Mothership I and XII.”
Pat added, “We also played with the brow—arched, softened, and gently toned to echo a new kind of modern Hollywood.”
This isn’t the first time Tyla has shut down the Met Gala red carpet with her eye-popping looks. Last year, the “PUSH 2 START” singer took the “Garden of Time” theme to the next level when she had to be cut out of her hourglass-inspired gown while walking the Met steps.
And that’s not the only way she experimented with the timepiece concept when choosing her outfit. Tyla also noted during the event that she and designer Balmain wanted the material to appear exactly like the contents of an hourglass.
“It’s sand, basically, on material,” Tyla explained to Live From E!: Met Gala, “because we wanted to go with ‘sands of time,’ with the theme.”
And her 2024 appearance at fashion’s biggest night was certainly a hint that she would be willing to go all out this time around as well. After all, she confessed that her show-stopping hourglass moment took a “very long” time to prepare that day.
“I’ve been up,” she joked to Live From E! at the time. “Just know I’ve been up.”
For Tyla, she credits her music success with opening her up to a whole new world of style—one that involves taking a lot more risks.
“I’ve always liked what I’ve liked, but now that I have more access to things, I’m able to play more,” the singer told Fashionista in an October interview. “My vibe has always been to wear things that don’t look too perfect. I like a bit of messiness or something a bit shocking.”
