Charli XCX has gone from Brat Summer to Met Gala Spring.
The Grammy winner arrived at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art May 5 to celebrate The Costume Institute’s new exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which the museum noted “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism.”
As a nod to the “Tailored for You” dress code, Charli wore a feather-filled black top under a black blazer, as well as a sheer black skirt wrap embellished with feathers along the hem. She accessorized her look with feathers in her hair and sparkling earrings. (see more stars’ red carpet looks here).
For those keeping track, this marks the “Speed Drive” artist’s third time cruising down the Met Gala steps. Last year, Charli wore a white gown by Marni. According to the fashion house, the dress was made from vintage T-shirts dating from the 1950s and 1970s and was embroidered with rhinestones and glass beads—requiring 200 hours of craftmanship to complete. And when she made her Met Gala debut in 2019, Charli donned a lime asymmetrical organza dress by Jean Paul Gaultier.
Still, the “Boom Clap” artist’s list of unforgettable outfits goes on and on and on and on. And even if she’s not attending an award show or taking the stage, Charli likes to dress to feel her best.
“My rules for getting dressed are quite simple,” she told Vogue Australia in September. “I think you have to wear what makes you confident, what makes you feel good—even if that’s the most simple, casual good. If you feel powerful in it, you’ll probably look powerful in it. And I always try to look powerful.”
And there’s certainly a lot of star power at the 2025 Met Gala. In addition to Charli, attendees include co-chairs ColmanDomingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour.
