Miley Cyrus comes alive at the edge of midnight.
After all, that’s when she wears her most memorable outfits. True to her fashion tradition, the pop singer stepped out in risqué style while promoting her new album, Something Beautiful, in New York City.
During the June 4 outing, Miley was seen signing fans’ autographs in a sheer Ludovic de Saint Sernin black dress. The 32-year-old also elevated the look with sunglasses, a gold necklace and black underwear, her blonde-brown hair styled in a high bun. And while she’s focused on her latest album—which was released on May 30—at the moment, this new look reminds of the rockstar glam on 2020’s Plastic Hearts.
The nod is fitting, as she’s shared Something Beautiful was inspired by Pink Floyd’s rock opera film The Wall.
“We really leaned in,” Miley explained of the album’s visuals to Harper’s Bazaar last November, adding she has a “heart-first attachment” to the 1982 movie. “My idea was making The Wall, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture.”
That theme also drips through the album’s sound, where she mixed psychedelic rock production with intimate lyrics. Miley noted that “every song has these healing sound properties,” as Something Beautiful is supposed to reflect multiple stages in life.
“The songs, whether they’re about destruction or heartbreak or death, they’re presented in a way that is beautiful, because the nastiest times of our life do have a point of beauty,” she continued. “They are the shadow, they are the charcoal, they are the shading. You can’t have a painting without highlights and contrast.”
And it seems the Grammy winner—who’s now dating Maxx Morando—is taking the album’s core message to heart, as she recently reflected on a major event that affected her life: her former marriage to ex Liam Hemsworth. Miley revealed she lost a lot of personal connections after she and Liam, who she finalized her divorce from in 2020 after two years of marriage, lost their Malibu home in a 2018 wildfire.
“When my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down,” she said during a May 6 preview of Something Beautiful, per People. “I think what I would have told my younger self is to appreciate those darker times, because they are only leading you into the light.”
