MIPCOM: Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons Join Thriller Series ‘Embassy’

Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons are signing up for Embassy, a six-part geopolitical action series.

Pitch Perfect star Kendrik will play Layla, a resourceful American diplomat stationed at the U.S. Embassy in London when it comes under attack from armed mercenaries. The U.S. Ambassador (Simmons) orders her to extract a high-value asset held inside the compound, and Layla is forced to team up with her ex, a British SAS soldier, even as evidence emerges of a broader conspiracy.

AGC Television is producing the series with Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios and will be selling the show to international buyers at TV confab MIPCOM in Cannes next week.

Embassy was created and written by Rom Lotan and will be directed by John Strickland (Bodyguard, Line of Duty). Lotan and Strickland will executive produce together with Ascendant Fox’s Hester Ruoff, Bart Ruspoli and Matt Mitchell; Turbine’s Daniel Hetzer, Jakob Neuhauser, Justin Thomson and David Tanner; and AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz and Miguel A. Palos Jr. Filming is set to begin in February 2026 in London and Cologne.

Kendrick will next star opposite Seth Rogen in Babies, directed by Lauren Miller Rogen, which begins production in Los Angeles in November. She’s also set to appear alongside Adam Driver and Daniel Kaluuya in Chris Rock’s currently untitled drama (formerly Misty Green) for A24.

Simmons, coming off of The Accountant 2, has a typically full dance card, with roles in David Ayer’s actioner Heart of the Beast alongside Brad Pitt, as George Schultz in Michael Russell Gunn’s Cold War political drama Reykjavik, and alongside Nicolas Cage in Cameron Van Hoy’s satirical drama The Prince.

Kendrick is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, and attorney Todd Rubenstein. Simmons is represented by Gersh. Lotan is represented by Independent Artist Group, Writ Large, and Lichter Grossman Nichols Feldman Rogal Shikora & Clark. Strickland is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency, Independent Talent Group, and Lighthouse Entertainment. The deal was negotiated by Sam Williams for Ascendant Fox, Matthias Braun for Turbine Studios, and Conor McElroy for AGC.
