Kai Schreiber lives life in her own fashion.
Indeed, the 16-year-old daughter of Liev Schreiberand Naomi Watts has always known she was destined for the runway, even since she was much younger.
“I want to be a supermodel. Period,” Kai told Interview Magazine in an interview published June 11. “I’ve been practicing my walks in the kitchen for years; my mom can show you all the videos I forced her to film.”
And as the teen emphasized, her transgender identity probably played a role in her passion for fashion.
“Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it,” she continued. “I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman, like Marilyn [Monroe].”
Plus, Kai made her runway debut with Valentino during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, which confirmed her destiny. She added, “That job made me realize, ‘Okay, this is what I want to do.’”
As she navigates her budding career in fashion, Kai noted that she is inspired by other trans models like Hunter Schafer and Alex Consani, especially during a time that she said the community is “under such hostile attack.”
“As a young trans girl, I’m always going to look up to the older generation of transgender people, especially in fashion,” she explained. “It’s so great that there’s a strong community of us in the fashion world; it’s really a doll takeover.”
But Kai isn’t alone on her journey to take over the runway. In fact, her dad—who also shares son Sasha Schreiber, 17, with Naomi, as well as daughter Hazel, 18 months, with wife Taylor Neisen—is proud to support his daughter, even when naysayers called her a nepo baby following her runway debut.
“She does what she wants with her life,” Liev told TMZ in March. “I’m super proud of her. I thought she did an amazing job on the show.”
