Tyrese Haliburton is going old school with his engagement to college sweetheart Jade Jones.
After all, the Indiana Pacers player popped the question on the Illinois State University campus, where they went the school together.
As seen in photos and video shared on Instagram July 28, Tyrese got down one knee at the basketball court inside the Hilton Coliseum, presenting his girlfriend of six years with a massive, oval cut diamond ring from The Clear Cut featuring a pavé band and hidden halo.
“The place where our story started,” the NBA star wrote in the caption, “and where our next chapter begins.”
Jade added in the comments section, “Future Mrs. What the Hali.”
Tyrese’s fellow athletes also thought the romantic gesture was a slam dunk, with WNBA star Caitlin Clark writing, “WEDDING TIMEEEEE. LOVE YALL.”
“Ohhhhhhh s–tttt it’s about time,” Chicago Bulls’ Jalen Smith quipped, while Golden State Warriors’ Buddy Hield added, “Congratulations my Dawg.”
And Tyrese may have some down time at home to focus on wedding planning in the coming months, as he will be missing the entirety of the upcoming 2025-2026 NBA season to heal from a torn Achilles tendon after undergoing surgery in June.
“At 25, I’ve already learned that God never gives us more than we can handle,” Tyrese captioned an Instagram photo of himself on a hospital bed last month. “I know I’ll come out on the other side of this a better man and a better player.”
He continued, “My journey to get to where I am today wasn’t by happenstance, I’ve pushed myself every day to be great. And I will continue to do just that.”
While sitting out for an entire season “sucks,” Tyrese said he’s still “grateful for every single experience” in his career so far.
“I’m grateful for all the love from the hoop world,” he shared. “I don’t ‘have to’ go through this, I get to go through this. I’m grateful for the road that lies ahead. Watch how I come back from this. So, give me some time, I’ll dust myself off and get right back to being the best version of Tyrese Haliburton.”
Likewise, Jade believes Tyrese’s career is “not finished yet.”
“You have been nothing short of amazing,” she wrote to her longtime love on Instagram June 23. “I will always be your biggest cheerleader. I will forever be so proud of you!!”
