Nicole Richie has a simple life philosophy.
The House of Harlow creative director is a huge proponent of sharing with her 17-year-old daughter Harlow Madden, especially when it comes to her clothes.
“She knows that she can take anything in my closet,” Nicole exclusively told E! News’ Francesca Amiker. “My mom always let me have free rein of her closet. And so I have the same vibe going with my daughter.”
The Simple Lifealum—who also shares son Sparrow, 15, with husband Joel Madden—explained that the pair’s special bond isn’t a one-way street, adding, “She’s in my closet, I’m in hers. It’s all, ‘Whoever wants what.’”
And while fashion is a primary focus for Nicole—she’s the newest ambassador for ultra-luxury fashion resale platform Fashionphile—it’s not the only area of her life in which she prioritizes sharing. In fact, she’s passionate about not hiding anything from her children.
“I am very honest and open with my kids,” she continued in the interview, airing tonight, May 1, at 11 p.m. “My husband is too. My parents were that way with me.”
Nicole—whose parents are musician Lionel Richieand his ex-wife Brenda Harvey-Richie—added, “We love to laugh and joke and my kids love to make fun of me. I’m fine with that. As long as we’re all laughing, I’m totally fine with it.”
As for why Nicole has a perspective of sharing any and all with her kids? She has noted it’s because she can “so clearly remember what it’s like to be a teenager.”
“They know everything I did,” she told Glamour in December. “I knew before I had them that I was going to have to be transparent with them about who I was. And I’ve actually found freedom in that. I didn’t want my kids having some big discovery about me. And I’ve always been very open and honest with my kids and hope that they are open and honest with me.”
