Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller One Battle After Another leads all comers as the Vancouver Film Critics Circle unveiled its nominations for the best movies of 2025 on Tuesday.
One Battle After Another came out on top with seven nods, including for best picture, best director, best screenplay and acting nominations for Leonardo Di Caprio and supporting cast members Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor and Sean Penn.
Reflecting a wider awards season competition unfolding in early 2026, Vancouver film critics also gave strong showings for Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearean heartbreaker Hamnet with four nominations and Ryan Coogler’s slick vampire film Sinners with another two nods.
Joachim Trier’s Cannes winner Sentimental Value picked up four nominations, including for best international film and acting nods for leads Stellan Skarsgard, Elle Fanning and Renata Reinsve.
