Renée Zellweger is entering the building.
The two-time Academy Award winner will join the cast of Only Murders in the Building for season five, alongside Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin.
On March 26, the show’s official Instagram shared a photo of her chair on set, with the caption, “Welcome to the building, Renée Zellweger! #OMITB.”
Fans were thrilled to hear that the Bridget Jones’s Diary star would be joining the cast, with one user writing, “W H A T?! I already adore this show…and now this legend is joining? Love it, love it, love it! Can’t wait!” Another added, “You get more and more iconic every season.”
Zellweger, 55, is joining the upcoming season along with Christoph Waltz and Keegan Michael-Key, however their involvement in the plot—and how they will be connected to the next murder to happen in The Arconia—has been kept under wraps.
For Zellweger, the Hulu show continues her recent acting spree after a six-year break in the early 2010s. The Cold Mountain actress felt like “needed to” at the time, she said in a January interview with British Vogue. “I was sick of the sound of my own voice.”
She continued, “When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”
And while she took time out of the spotlight, the Judy actress—who has been dating Ant Anstead since 2021—filled her time with meaning.
“I wrote music and studied international law,” she revealed. “I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godchildren and driving across the country with the dogs. I got healthy.”
