Everybody’s got one—even Conan O’Brien.
The 2025 Oscars host asked the audience at the Dolby Theatre to “please welcome my two hall passes”—a phrase used to describe a hypothetical one-off romantic encounter—as he introduced presenters June Squibb and Scarlett Johansson during the March 2 ceremony.
But the Oscar-nominated duo—whom Conan introduced as “ScarJo and JuSqu”—brought some laughs of their own before revealing the winners for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. (See all the night’s big winners here.)
“What a hardworking bunch,” Scarlett, a two-time nominee in 2020, said. “I got up at 6 a.m. just so they could do my makeup in a way that looks like I didn’t actually do my makeup.”
And June, who was nominated in 2014 for Nebraska, joked about her own dramatic transformation.
“I got a little makeup done too,” the 95-year-old added. “I’m actually being played by Bill Skarsgård right now.”
The actresses weren’t the only performers Conan joked about during the show. While delivering his opening monologue earlier in the evening, the veteran late night host poked fun at Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón’s controversial resurfaced social media posts.
“FYI, Anora used the F-word 479 times,” he said as he opened the show, joking that the nominated film’s curse word count was only “three more than Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.”
He didn’t stop there, adding, “Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, remember: my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”
Conan also got an assist from Adam Sandler during the monologue when the Grown Ups star appeared in the audience in a sweatshirt and shorts, leading to a hilarious exchange over appropriate Oscar fashion.
“Nobody even thought about what I was wearing ‘til you brought it up,” Adam shouted, leading Conan to reply, “You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.”
