A project detailing Ozzy Osbourne’s life has been put on hold.
After the Black Sabbath frontman died July 22, a BBC documentary, Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, giving a look at the final years of his life alongside wife Sharon Osbourne and kids Kelly Osbourne and Jack Osbourne has been delayed from its original August 18 airdate.
“The film has moved in the schedules,” a BBC spokesperson said in a statement to E! News August 18, “we’ll confirm new [transmission] details in due course.”
The delay of the documentary, which was previously described by the broadcast channel as “moving and inspirational account of the last chapter of Ozzy’s life” comes two years after the project was conceived as a follow up to The Osbournes, the family’s reality series which ran on MTV from 2002 to 2005.
“It was an incredible privilege to spend the last few years with Ozzy, as well as Sharon, Jack and Kelly,” the project’s producers, Ben Wicks and Colin Barr, said in a statement earlier this month. “Ozzy wanted to make it back to the U.K. and appear on stage one last time—our film is an inspiring and poignant account of him fulfilling that dream.”
Indeed, the documentary was set to detail the journey to Ozzy’s final concert, an event labeled “Back to the Beginning,” which took place in England July 5 and brought over 40,000 fans together.
“Ozzy was loved by millions around the world not just for his music, but for his sense of mischief and his honesty, all of which we saw plenty of in the final years of his life,” the producers continued in a statement. “But one thing shone through even more brightly to us, and that was Ozzy’s intense love for his exceptional family, who were by his side through it all.”
Following Ozzy’s death July 22, a funeral service was held July 30 with a procession through Ozzy’s hometown Birmingham, England. The late 76-year-old’s family—which also includes daughter Aimee Osbourne as well as Jessica, 53, and Louis, 50, with ex Thelma Riley—put on a united front for the ceremony and shared their own tributes to the late rocker.
“He was so many things to so many people, but I was so lucky and blessed to be a part of a very small group that got to call him ‘Dad,’” Jack wrote in an August 6 statement to Instagram. “My heart is full of so much sadness and sorrow, but also so much love and gratitude. I got 14,501 days with that man and I know that is such a blessing.”

Ozzy, born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, in 1948, struggled with school early on. It was his passion for music that ultimately helped him move forward.
“I left school with a little more education than when I first started going,” he told The Associated Press in 2010. “Because of my dyslexia, I couldn’t learn. So, I was teased a lot by one of my sister about not bing able to read. It’s very shameful.”
“If it wasn’t for The Beatles turning me onto music in a big way, I don’t know what I would have done,” he continued. “Music has been the main thing that got me out of the area, the place I was born.”
1973
In 1968, he and his friends formed Black Sabbath, inspired by the film of the same name, with their self-titled debut album earning major commercial success. In 1971, he married his first wife Thelma Riley, with whom he shared kids Jessica Osbourne, Louis Osbourne and ElliotKingsley.
1974

“Money would be the alcohol and the drugs and I behaved badly,” he said in his documentary Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne of that time. “That was one of the lowest points of my life.”
1982
Ozzy—as a solo artist—took the stage at Madison Square Garden for his Diary of a Madman tour, just two days after he infamously bit into a dead bat that was thrown onto the stage, which he believed was fake.
“I just thought it was a rubber bat,” Ozzy said in the documentary, “and I just put it in my mouth and crunched down. I just f–king bit into it, you know, being the f–king clown that I am [and was like], ‘Oh no! It’s real.'”
Later that year, he married his manager, Sharon Arden.
1983
