Prince William doesn’t have to visit the Glastonbury Festival to hear some live music.
After all, the Prince of Wales has a rising musician at home. While visiting a youth group in London on Sept. 9, the royal shared that his and Kate Middleton’s youngest son Prince Louis, 7, is learning how to play different musical instruments.
“I’m definitely not a drummer,” William told one of the teens in the youth group, per Hello! magazine. “I’m happy to see you do it. If my youngest was here, he’d have a go because he’s practicing at the moment. I wish I started when I was your age.”
And it seems Louis’ interest in music runs in the family, as the 43-year-old revealed that he also played multiple instruments growing up.
“I couldn’t read music, so that was my biggest weakness,” he continued. “I started off playing piano, trumpet and the drums, and then realized I had to memorize every tune, and it just fell away.”
Though William lost his sonic drive, he noted that he’s encouraging his and Kate’s two other kids Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10, to stay consistent in reading music.
“I make sure my children learn music because I love music,” he added, “and it’s crucial — really important.”
This isn’t the first time William has gushed over his kids’ ear for rhythm. In fact, he revealed that he had to build a schedule for Louis, George and Charlotte to play their instruments, as they would try to create music at the same time.
“What I’ve been amazed by is how much my children already have inherited my family’s love of music,” he explained on Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk series in December 2021, according to Town & Country magazine. “Most mornings, there’s a massive fight between Charlotte and George as to what song is played in the morning. And I have to, now, basically prioritize that one day someone does this one, and another day it’s someone else’s turn.”
