Love and diplomacy are in the air again as sequel feature Red, White & Royal Wedding begins production.
Amazon MGM Studios announced the full cast Wednesday for director Jamie Babbit’s movie follow-up to its 2023 queer romance Red, White & Royal Blue. Stars Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine were previously confirmed to reprise their roles after originating them in director Matthew López’s initial film that adapted author Casey McQuiston’s 2019 novel.
The castmembers who have been newly confirmed to return from the first movie include Uma Thurman (Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair), Sarah Shahi (Paradise), Rachel Hilson (This Is Us), Ellie Bamber (Moss & Freud), Clifton Collins Jr. (Jockey), Stephen Fry (The Morning Show), Thomas Flynn (Run Away), Aneesh Sheth (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and Malcolm Atobrah (The Running Man). Newcomers to the cast include Henry Ashton (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) and Alex Høgh Andersen (Vikings).
Plot details have not yet been revealed for the sequel that has a script credited to McQuiston, López and Gemma Burgess. López produces alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Michael McGrath for Berlanti Schechter Films, in addition to Jennifer Salke for Sullivan Street Productions. McQuiston and Michael Constable will executive produce.
Red, White & Royal Wedding’s Instagram account posted a video earlier this week in which Perez and Galitzine clarified that the titular nuptials involve Princess Beatrice (Bamber), the younger sister to Galitzine’s character, Prince Henry.
“I do want to say that we are here for Bea’s wedding,” said Perez, who plays First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz. Added Galitzine about their own characters potentially tying the knot: “Don’t get confused. That’s a long ways off, at this point.”
The sequel’s production launch follows the recent popularity for Heated Rivalry, which aired its first season late last year on HBO Max and similarly focuses on an enemies-to-lovers LGBTQ relationship.
