Alaska Thunderf–k has sashayed into a new chapter.
After all, the RuPaul‘s Drag Race alumannounced that she and Matthew Herrmann are engaged after he got down on one knee in her Pennsylvania hometown.
“My longtime partner Matthew Herrmann proposed to me yesterday,” the reality star, who was runner-up on season five, told Entertainment Weekly in a statement Aug. 4. “It was after my grandma’s 90th birthday celebration.”
Alaska (real name Justin Andrew Honard) added, “I love him so much and he’s the best.”
The Drag Race season five runner-up, who went on to win All Stars season two, showed off the dazzling silver band on Instagram Aug. 4, simply captioning the photo with two ring emojis and two smiling emojis with hearts.
Alaska’s fellow Drag Race contestants couldn’t help but gush over the milestone with season 13’s Rosé wrote, “love you 🙂 Congratulations to you both.”
Meanwhile, season nine’s Miss Peppermint simply commented, “Congrats mama!”
Matthew, a Los Angeles-based producer, has always been Alaska’s biggest supporter. When the drag queen’s play DRAG: The Musical made its debut, he praised her hard work, writing on Instagram in January, “I am so so proud of you.”
For Alaska—who previously dated season four winner Sharon Needles for four years until 2013—the musical was seven years in the making after Tomas Costanza and Ashley Gordon approached her to collaborate.
“I wanted the show to be on the drag queens’ turf,” the 40-year-old told The Theatre Times in December. “I didn’t want to write a story about straight people that happens to have drag queens in it, I wanted to reflect the drag queens’ world.”
While Alaska wanted to show off the “glitz and the glamour and feathers and rhinestones,” she wanted to “show all of those real elements from the world of drag, including “the bar that smells bad, the sticky floor, the toilet that doesn’t work.”
Despite the ups and downs, she explained, “I am deep in the world of drag, I live and breathe it, it’s the ocean and I’m a fish in it.”
