Matthew Broderickand Sarah Jessica Parker’s kids may take the day off from acting.
Though the two-time Tony winner and Sex and the City star have established themselves as Hollywood mainstays, their twin daughters Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell, 15, aren’t necessarily concerned with pursuing the family business.
“One of them definitely is not, she says, right now,” Matthew exclusively told E! News at A Night of SeriousFun, a fundraising event hosted by the late Paul Newman’s SeriousFun Children’s Network organization in New York City April 7, “but I don’t think so.”
However, Matthew and Sarah Jessica’s passion for action was passed onto their son James Wilkie, 22, who got to share the screen with the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star in a February episode of CBS’ Elsbeth. And the 63-year-old couldn’t help but gush about their days on set.
“It was great. We had two days together,” Matthew continued. “It was really fun to hang around the craft service table and eat snacks. He was nervous but he got over that. We had a great couple of days. It was great.” (For more from Matthew and more stars at A Night of SeriousFun, which also marked what would have been Paul’s 100th birthday, tune in to E! News tonight, April 8, at 11 p.m.)
Indeed, the 22-year-old agrees with his dad. “What a thrill it was to work side by side with my dad, who also happens to be my favorite actor!” James told People in January. “The whole experience of working on Elsbeth was beyond exciting and I am very grateful to the producers for giving me this opportunity.”
And as James pursues his own journey acting, Matthew and Sarah Jessica have made sure to support him in any way he needs.
“Well, I’ll give advice if I’m asked,” Matthew told People in an interview published April 8. “My wife is with him when he does auditions. It’s self-tape nowadays and she’ll read with him and tell him, ’It’s not good.’ And you know I will too.”
He added, “We definitely [support him] but only if he wants to.”
But if acting doesn’t work out, Matthew is confident in James’ future. “He has a really good education too, so he has a lot of different things he can do,” he explained, “but I think right now he likes acting.”
