Prior to the after-party festivities, Saturday Night Live, which was created by executive producer Lorne Michaels in 1975, hosted a three-hour-plus celebratory special at Rockefeller Center’s Studio 8H, where the show has been filmed since its very first episode.

“You want something your whole life,” McKinnon told People last month. “I remember watching when I was 12—for me it was the good nights, like watching people hug each other after the show and just, seeing the camaraderie—I was like, ‘I have to be there.’”

Meanwhile, plenty of other stars known for their comedic craft, but not included in the Saturday Night Live cast, also just had to be there to commemorate the 50th anniversary occasion.
