For Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson’s latest Weekend Update, it’s date night at Saturday Night Live.
The longtime cast member and his wife of almost five years were among those who walked the stared-studded red carpet for SNL 50: The Anniversary Special on Feb. 16. During the outing at 30 Rockefeller Center, the couple shared a sweet moment on the carpet. Colin kept things classic in a tux while Scarlett complemented him in a black midi-dress featuring jeweled lining in the bodice up through the straps. (See all the stars on the red carpet here.)
While the three-hour special celebrates a historical night for the iconic NBC sketch comedy series, marking 50 years since its debut, Saturday Night Live also has a special place in Colin and Scarlett’s love story.
Indeed, Colin, 42, has been a writer on the show since 2005 and the co-anchor for Weekend Update since 2014, while Scarlett, 40, has hosted SNL six times over the years, marking her as a member of the coveted “Five-Timers Club.”
They even first met working on the show together during Scarlett’s hosting debut in 2006, though sparks didn’t start flying until more than a decade later when she hosted SNL for the fifth time in 2017. (They subsequently tied the knot in 2020 and are parents to son Cosmo, 3, as well her daughter Rose, 10, with ex Romain Dauriac.)
And while Colin and his Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che are still able to occasionally catch Scarlett off-guard with their jokes—most notably with their annual holiday joke swaps—the Black Widow star previously detailed how her husband clues her into his joke-writing process.
“I’ll often be like, ‘Well, that’s too much,’” she told E! News in 2023, admitting, “and that’s the one that gets the biggest laugh.”
However, Scarlett recently proved that she can dish out jokes just as well as her husband, lamenting to Jenna Bush Hager during her recent weeklong stint co-hosting Today’s fourth hour—where Colin made a surprise appearance—about the comedian and pal Pete Davidson’s ill-advised purchase of a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry boat.
“All I can say is that if anybody out there would like to start a GoFundMe for the Staten Island ferry, please be my guest,” Scarlett joked over her husband’s protests. “I don’t know if I’m speaking for the Staten Island ferry or against it but help our family. This has now become a telethon for support[ing] the Staten Island ferry.”
SNL 50: The Anniversary Special—featuring cast members and special guests across all 50 seasons— will air live from Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center on NBC and Peacock Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. For all the stars who joined in to celebrate, keep reading…
