No one else can speak the words on Spencer Pratt’s lips.
The Hills alum spoke out in defense of his wife Heidi Montag’s blond bob wig at the 2025 American Music Awards May 26 after social media users criticized the look, including one commenter who wrote that he “should’ve stopped” the singer from wearing the hairpiece.
In a TikTok post the following day, Spencer, 41, defended the look while simultaneously promoting his wife’s upcoming album, which is set for release May 30.
“If you love her buy Heidiwood album so she can afford better wigs in the future,” he captioned the May 27 TikTok. “Fancy wigs cost like 20k ask Beyoncé.”
In a separate video on the platform, Spencer elaborated on the matter, noting that he and Heidi, 38, are making the most of their resources.
“A really nice wig is $20,000,” he said in the clip. “We don’t have a $20,000 wig budget, so it’s a cute little wig for the money that we can afford for a wig.”
Despite the polarized reactions to Heidi’s getup, Spencer noted that he’s taking the commentary in stride.
“A lot of people loved the wig, a lot of people didn’t love it so much,” he continued. “But you know what? We’re very thankful to be at the American Music Awards and having anyone talking about Heidi’s hair.”
Heidi and Spencer—who wed in 2009 and share sons Gunner, 7 and Ryker, 2—have been candid about their finances in the past, particularly in the wake of losing their home during the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
“I made, like, $4,000 on TikTok this week,” Spencer told Variety of his efforts to raise money following the January natural disaster, “but on TikTok Live, where people can just give to me direct, I think maybe $20,000.”
However, the reality star was quick to point out that his income as a content creator isn’t quite as lucrative as it may seem.
“Everyone thought that was $3.5 million in the week,” he told E! News later that month. “If it was true, we would be in Bel Air right now shopping for our new house.”
And as the couple work to get back on their feet, Heidi noted that she and Spencer are thankful for the support they’ve been receiving.
“It feels incredible because we can’t afford to rebuild our house right now,” she shared. “Hopefully, we will be able to do that and we will be able to get our kids’ house back.”
