Survivor Winner Kyle Fraser Reveals How Much Weight He Lost During 26-Day Game

Watch:‘Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans’ Cast Revealed

Kyle Fraser had to survive a wardrobe malfunction on Survivor

The season 48 winner of the reality competition series recently responded to commenters curious why he was consistently wearing formal shorts and a belt during his time sequestered on the beaches of Fiji—and it stemmed from his dramatic weight loss.

“I’ve gotten a lot of DMs, a lot of questions about my belt,” Kyle said in a June 4 TikTok. “Why I’m wearing it so much, why I’m wearing it in the challenges. There’s been a lot of commentary on it so I just thought I’d come in here and address some things real quick. I’m gonna keep it a buck with you—I lost 28 pounds playing Survivor.”

And while the series follows a group of contestants sent to a remote, usually tropical, location to fend for themselves and compete in challenges, Kyle opted not to bring athletic shorts of any kind, and his formal attire quickly became too big for him.

“This belt is the only thing holding my pants up in these challenges,” he detailed, sharing another photo of him underwater with the belt on. “Those shorts would’ve slipped off as I was trying to get back to the surface, so there’s another representation of how the belt was useful.”

However, Kyle went on to laugh at himself wearing “business casual” while competing in an immunity challenge during the 12th episode, referring to the slanted platform that he had to remain on amid the game as a “torture device.”

“The belt,” he laughed, noting his shirt made the outfit look more ridiculous. “I think tucking in the shirt was a little too much. It was raining, it was cold, so that’s why I had the shirt on because I thought it would keep my body heat in. In reality, it just made me look like a dumbass on TV.”

Of course, Kyle is far from the only contestant to embarrass themselves on Survivor. In fact, White Lotus creator Mike White explained that part of the appeal of the series is to observe how the experience affects human behavior.

“It’s not ironic,” Mike, who first competed on season 37, insisted of his devotion to the series in a 2021 interview with the New Yorker. “Part of my job and my way of life is studying people and analyzing motivation and character. I still feel like, even on the most contrived reality show, the people are human and they’re more interesting than some of the most well-scripted drama.”

Mike may love to observe, but he’s about to become the observed after returning for Survivor’s season 50 cast. Keep reading to see his fellow contestants…
