Dakota Mortensen is taking his ex’s dating update in stride.
Taylor Frankie Paul‘s former boyfriend—with whom she shares daughter Ever, 17 months—gave his honest thoughts about her Bachelorette journey while cheekily inquiring about her audition process. Indeed he posted a video of him lip-syncing to Lindsay Lohan‘s mock dating video for eHarmony from 2009, writing over the video, “Is this how it works to be the next Bachelor?”
Dakota wrote over the Sept. 11 Instagram clip, “Is this how it works to be the next Bachelor?”
“Hi, my name is Lindsay and I’m searching for love,” he mouthed in the Sept. 11 Instagram post. “I’m recently single, I think, and I’m looking for someone whom I can spend the rest of my life with, or at least the rest of my probation with.”
“A little bit about me,” the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star went on, “I’m an actress, a singer, an entrepreneur.”
And just in case any of his followers thought that he was shading Taylor in any way Dakota, 32, made sure everyone knew he was kidding before expressing his well wishes to his ex.
“It’s a joke.. everyone relax lol,” he captioned the post, “that being said I am happy for Tay and I hope she finds happiness no matter what.”
Dakota’s more direct reaction came one day after he’d posted a more cryptic message alluding to the announcement of Taylor as the lead for season 22 of The Bachelorette.
“I don’t know if he knows or if he knew I had the opportunity,” Taylor explained during the pre-taped interview that aired Sept. 10. “So, he’ll know Wednesday.”
The 31-year-old added that she thought he’d be “sad” when he heard the news but maintained that Dakota already knew that she’d started seeing other people after confirming they had broken up for good earlier this year.
As she said, “We’ve already had that first hurt, I guess.”
“I don’t know if he knows or if he knew I had the opportunity,” Taylor explained during the pre-taped interview that aired Sept. 10. “So, he’ll know Wednesday.”

And will Dakota be watching her search for a husband? Taylor thinks he will be.
“I think he’s always watching, as of now,” she mused. “And maybe it takes him meeting someone new and focusing on her, and maybe it will be different. I can’t say.”
