Much conjecture has been made about Timothée Chalamet’s run of acceptance speeches over this past year. Remember 2025’s SAG Awards? The award, outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role, was the only one TC won, as The Brutalist’s Adrian Brody took home most of the gold. And when the star of A Complete Unknown accepted the honor, gushing, “The truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats,” a lot of the greats were sitting in the audience. It didn’t go over well, and was dubbed “over-confidence.”
This year, Chalamet’s biggest awards competition is One Battle After Another’s Leo DiCaprio, and when Chalamet was handed the Critic’s Choice Award for Marty Supreme last month, he enthused: “Thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I couldn’t do this without you.” Rambling on with over-the-top gratitude, his was the longest speech of the night — and the most viral. Mostly the Kylie Jenner part, as they’ve apparently been living together for a year, and he’d never acknowledged her in public before.
A week later, at the Golden Globes, there was a complete turnaround in Chalamet style; the speech seemed far more mature, much crisper, definitely shorter. (Seems young Timmy is not fond of being a comedic meme.) But he did acknowledge, again, in a more lowkey tone: “And to my parents, my partner, I love you.” This gave Kylie even more attention, more camera time, more chances to show off her strapless barely-hanging on Ashi couture outfit.
Why all this sudden Kylie love? As with most obvious moves, there was a motive: Kylie wasn’t happy when most A-list celebs wouldn’t pose with her at awards shows, let alone talk to her.
Let’s see if that changes at the Oscars.
Chalamet’s punchy speeches may be quashed in favor of “serious actor who wants an Oscar” style — but never his sartorial style. A few days ago in New York’s snowy weather, he donned rare Ugg boots covered with flames, trudging through ice. Vogue called them “fire!”
