Jenna Ortega knows that beauty is pain—and a little hefty on the muscles.
While the Scream VI alum certainly turned heads with her diamond-studded Givenchy lookat the 2025 Emmys, she got quite a workout due to how heavy the top ended up being.
“She was like, ‘Enrique, I love you. But can we please do something more practical next time?’ Because it was heavy,” her stylist Enrique Melendez recalled in the Sept. 18 episode of the Plus One podcast. “That thing was digging into her poor collar bone. It’s like a good 20, 30 pounds, at least. So imagine that on your collar bone and you can’t do anything.”
With that weight in mind, Enrique—who’s been Jenna’s personal stylist since 2014—couldn’t help but praise the Beetlejuice star for being“married to the moment” and learning how to “shake it off” in order to serve a look.
Indeed, the 22-year-old made a statement when she graced the event’s red carpet on Sept. 14, fiercely posing to show off the top’s chunky, multi-colored jewels. She completed the custom look, which she later wore to present an award during the ceremony, with a black skirt that featured a high slit and heels.
The top’s density wasn’t the only detail she and Enrique kept in mind. With it only sporting large diamonds, there was a chance that the ensemble could move in the wrong direction, but the actress wasn’t scared of a nip slip.
“She was actually like, ‘Enrique, I am not worried about a slip, but I want to be respectful to the Academy obviously,’” he revealed. “But I was worried about a slip, so we used proper tape and everything. It was our first time doing something this revealing.”
As for how the campy outfit came together? While it first caught the stylist’s eye back in March, it wasn’t until August—the same day she attended Wednesday’s season two premiere in New York—that the look truly came together.
“She tried it on and it fit,” he explained. “The thing is, you can’t really modify something like that. It’s a totally couture piece, but it fit her. It was meant to be.”
